Florida Gov. Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis and California Governor. Gavin Newsom, a Democratic candidate for governor of California, has agreed to take part in a debate that will air on Fox News in November. The debate will be moderated Sean Hannity. The debate will be broadcast on Fox at 9 pm during Hannity’s prime-time show, according to the network. The event will last 90 minutes at a location yet to be decided but it will be in Georgia.
In a statement issued through the network, Hannity said he is “looking forward to providing viewers with an informative debate about the everyday issues and governing philosophies that impact the lives of every American.”
The planned debate comes as DeSantis looks to break through the Republican primary field and establish himself as a legitimate challenger to former president Trump, who has a sizeable lead in most GOP primary polls. DeSantis is scheduled to participate in the Fox Business Network’s second GOP primary on Wednesday. Trump will not be attending. The former president has ridiculed Fox News, its corporate owners and their efforts to promote DeSantis in order to prevent him from reclaiming his White House.
Trump made several high-profile Fox appearances in the last few months, including one with Hannity who was a personal friend of Trump for many years.
Newsom engaged in an extensive media tour in the past few days, participating in interviews on a variety of cable news channels as well as a broad-ranging discussion with CBS News “60 Minutes”.
The Democrat has ruled out the prospect of him challenging President Biden for the party’s nomination for president in 2024.
